Addis Ababa, September 3, 2026 – Somalia’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, H.E. Ambassador Gamal Mohamed Hassan, held bilateral talks with Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry, Hon. Lee Kinyanjui, focusing on strengthening economic and commercial relations between the two countries.
The discussions centered on establishing a more structured, predictable, and mutually beneficial trade relationship that supports businesses, investors, and communities on both sides of the border.
The two officials discussed facilitating the movement of goods, streamlining customs and border procedures, expanding bilateral investment opportunities, and leveraging Somalia and Kenya’s membership in the East African Community (EAC) to generate tangible economic and trade benefits.
They also explored opportunities to deepen cooperation in key sectors, including agriculture, livestock, fisheries, manufacturing, logistics, and services, while aligning regional economic integration efforts with opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Somalia reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with Kenya to develop a stronger, transparent, and predictable economic partnership capable of creating new opportunities for trade, investment, and sustainable economic growth in both countries.
