A Somali National Army (SNA) soldier was killed on Wednesday in a suspected clan revenge attack in the El Baraf area of Middle Shabelle region.
The soldier, identified as Ahmed Shire Hussein, was reportedly travelling from Raage Ceelle to Buulobarde in the neighbouring Hiiraan region when armed militiamen intercepted him along the road and killed him.
Hussein was said to have been on leave from his military unit and was reportedly suffering from an illness at the time.
A disturbing video circulated on social media reportedly shows the soldier in the custody of the armed men shortly before he was killed.
The incident comes amid recurring clan tensions and retaliatory killings in communities along the border between Middle Shabelle and Hiiraan, where clashes have previously claimed several lives.
The Somali National Army command and the Federal Government of Somalia have not yet publicly commented on the killing or announced any action in response.
