Federal Cabinet Appointments Raise Questions Over Puntland Representation
MOGADISHU — The Council of Ministers of the Federal Government of Somalia, chaired by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, has approved new appointments to senior positions within key federal institutions, including the Federal Investment Authority.
Feysal Adan Hassan was appointed Director General of the Federal Investment Authority, while Mohamed Yusuf Mohamed was appointed Deputy Director General. Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre also appointed Mohamed Dhuubow Mohamed as Director General of the Halmeel Unified Services Centre.
The latest appointments have raised questions over the level of Puntland’s representation in senior federal institutions, particularly as Puntland continues to maintain significant political differences with the Federal Government over issues relating to power-sharing, federalism and the distribution of national responsibilities.
Critics argue that the continued absence of visible Puntland representation in some strategic federal appointments could further deepen concerns about inclusivity and political balance within federal institutions.
The appointments come at a sensitive period in relations between Puntland and the Federal Government, with disagreements between the two sides continuing to shape Somalia’s wider political landscape.
