Reports coming from the coastal areas of the Bari region indicate that Somali pirates have deliberately grounded the MT Eureka, a UAE-owned vessel sailing under the Togolese flag and carrying fuel destined for Bosaso.
The pirates have reportedly removed the crew from the vessel. This comes as Puntland has stepped up operations against pirates who are still holding several other vessels.
The pirates reportedly grounded the vessel as a means of pressuring the owners of the other ships being held to pay ransom.
